Max Granville shocked everyone within the Penn State football community when he announced that he would be reclassifying from the 2025 recruiting class to 2024, which led to his enrollment just days before fall camp. Since then he has received praise from his teammates and coaches. On Wednesday, Nittany Lions strength coach Chuck Losey shared another positive development for the true freshman defensive end.

Originally, Max Granville committed to the Penn State football team in June. In July, it was announced that he would reclassify and join the Nittany Lons for the 2024 season. The former four-star prospect from Sugar Land (Texas) was regarded as the top 200 prospect in the 2025 cycle according to On3.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday, strength coach Chuck Losey explained the 180 that Granville made in Losey’s eyes.

“I was legit worried about Max when he came in,” Losey said Wednesday afternoon. “I’m not worried one bit about that guy like he is an outstanding young man across the board, work ethic, personality, demeanor. I’m super thrilled.”

While we haven’t seen Max Granville on the field yet this season. His first opportunity was likely supposed to take place against Bowling Green last Saturday. But that was cut short due to the fight that the Falcons put up against Penn State.

Granville continues to wait his turn to make his Nittany Lion debut. But that hasn’t stopped him from turning heads at practice. Nittany Lions defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton referred to Granville as “Chop 2.0,”in reference to ex-Penn State DE Chop Robinson who is now with the Miami Dolphins.

James Franklin has also shared his thoughts on Granville as well.

Yeah, he’s already flashed in the first two days, James Franklin said in early August. Athletic, quick, a lot of things you saw on high school tape but just you don’t know if those things are going to show up when they get here. But that’s already happened.

“He’s also tested really well with our baseline testing with Coach Losey and that staff as soon as he was cleared and able to do that…

While we wait to see his debut on the field, the true freshman who should be a senior in high school seems to be carrying himself the right way on the field and in the weight room.
