Penn State football named finalist for elite 2025 DB

It’s crazy to think about how the 2023 season is almost over. It’s been an up-and-down year for the Nittany Lions but we only have 12 weeks to enjoy Penn State football. With the offseason looming, it’s that time of year when recruiting becomes the area of focus. How will James Franklin build this program to go beyond the 10-2 record? Well, it starts with going back to what he does best, recruiting the best talent he possibly can. With the 2024 recruiting class almost complete, the 2025 recruiting class has started to heat up. Now, the Nittany Lions set the focus on Kevyn Humes as the next potential prospect.

Can Penn State football land this lockdown defensive back?

The Penn State football team has been able to recruit defensive backs very well for many years. The credit goes to defensive backs coach Terry Smith for the relationship he builds with those players. But also, the way cornerbacks have been able to develop their talent and go on to have NFL success.

Now, Kevyn Humes has narrowed his college list down to his final five schools. Those schools include Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Penn State.

Who is Kevyn Humes?

Kevyn Humes is a four-star defensive back in the 2025 recruiting class according to 247sports. He is from Baltimore, MD, and plays his high school football at St. Frances Academy. He is currently listed as the No. 8 prospect in Maryland in the 2025 recruiting class and holds offers from top schools around the country. In 2022, he made the transition to primarily playing defense; however, he also has been tasked with returning kicks and limited offensive snaps.

The Nittany Lions just landed QB Bekkem Kritza last week and now look to continue to build on the 2025 recruiting class. James Franklin looks to get back to his roots and recruit well to build this program for the future.
