It’s a big day for the Penn State football team. After a long wait, James Franklin and his staff will find out where the No. 1 QB in Pennsylvania for the 2025 recruiting class, Matt Zollers, will play his college football. The Nittany Lions have been in the hunt since the beginning, but anything can happen on the recruiting trail. Although Penn State was thought to be one of the early frontrunners for Zollers, the Spring-Ford QB ultimately decided to play his football down south, committing to the Missouri Tigers out of the SEC on Thursday afternoon.
No. 1 QB in PA chooses Missouri over Penn State football
Matt Zollers is listed as the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania and the top in-state QB on both 247Sports and On3. The Spring-Ford (Royersford) QB is also ranked as high as the No. 3 player at his position in the 2025 recruiting class, per On3.
Zollers made one final round of visits to his top schools in recent days: Penn State, Georgia, Missouri, and Pitt. He also made an unexpected stop in Tuscaloosa to visit the Alabama Crimson Tide on Monday.
But as of Thursday afternoon, Matt Zollers is SEC-bound. The Keystone State’s top QB is leaving Pennsylvania, committing to Missouri.
Penn State’s current 2025 QB commit
While this is a tough blow for Penn State football, keep in mind the Nittany Lions have a 2025 QB commitment in this cycle. The Nittany Lions hold a commitment from Bekkem Krizta, who made his pledge to Penn State in November of 2023. Listed at 6-5, the three-star prospect has decided to transfer to Miami Central ahead of his senior year.
While missing on Matt Zollers is not ideal, James Franklin has a chance to push for alternate options in the 2025 recruiting class or push their recruiting efforts for a QB to the 2026 recruiting class.
