Last season, Penn State football RB Kaytron Allen emerged as one of the top 10 highest-graded true freshmen in college football, as recognized by Pro Football Focus. Despite Nick Singleton’s impressive performance leading the Nittany Lions in rushing yards, solidifying his role as Penn State’s running back, it is Allen who receives the higher ranking in PFF’s assessments.
This upcoming season, Allen has gained size, speed, and strength, and is eager to build upon his successful freshman year wearing the Blue and White; he is set to be a core piece of the Nittany Lions’ elite running back room, which appears to be one of the best in the country right now.
Penn State football RB Kaytron Allen striving for bigger and better in year two
Being ranked among PFF’s top-graded true freshmen last season is a significant accomplishment. In fact, both Allen and Singleton proved themselves to be not only exceptional freshman performers but also among the best running backs in the entire nation. As they enter their second year, both players have developed physically, increased their speed, and gained valuable experience.
According to Pro Football Focus, Kaytron Allen attained an impressive overall grade of 80.1, which was the 9th highest among true freshmen. Additionally, Allen’s statistical performance is equally noteworthy.
Kaytron’s advanced stats are top-notch
When all was said and done last year, Kaytron Allen amassed 867 yards on 167 carries, averaging an impressive 5.2 yards per carry, and scored 10 touchdowns. What makes this even more remarkable is that Allen managed to elude tackles on 27% of his attempts, and his 10+ carries of over 10 yards were the fourth-highest in the Big Ten conference.
The great news for Penn State football fans is that both Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton will be present in Happy Valley for at least two more years, aiming to establish themselves as the nation’s premier RB duo. If Allen can build upon his successful debut season at Penn State, there is no doubt that he will emerge as one of the top running backs in the country, and quite possibly etch his name in Penn State football history as one of the best.
