The Oregon Ducks are targeting Penn State’s top 2024 quarterback recruit — Michael Van Buren— pretty hard right now, and there is some uncertainty in what used to feel like a sure-fire commitment for Penn State. Van Buren still has a few months until his commitment date, but you can never be too careful while recruiting; luckily for Penn State football, the Nittany Lions appear to be in the best position to land 2024 Ohio quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer.
Penn State football is in the best position to land 2024 Ohio quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer
Ethan Grunkemeyer is a 2024 three-star quarterback (according to the On3 Industry Rankings) and is ranked as the No. 44 quarterback in the class and the No. 26 recruit in the state of Ohio. Ethan Grunkemeyer also has a great deal of interest in Penn State football, which could escalate further in May when he makes a return trip to State College for a fourth visit with the coaching staff — he claims it will be on May 20th.
Ethan Grunkemeyer has some notable offers thus far, including other Big Ten schools like Northwestern and Minnesota, as well as Ivey League programs like Princeton and Yale. For Penn State football, Ethan Grunkemeyer is likely not their first-choice QB, though he is a solid Ohio prospect and is gaining some national attention.
Penn State leads in his recruitment right now
Ethan Grunkemeyer has no crystal balls on 247 Sports; however, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Penn State Nittany Lions have the best odds to land his commitment all said and done. Additionally, Penn State football has a steady lead in recruiting visits and has established a great relationship between the young Ohio QB target and the coaching staff.
Ethan Grunkemeyer will be at the Elite 11 event in State College next month, which should be a great chance for Penn State coaches and fans to get an even better feel for who he is as a prospect. Grunkemeyer also claims that he is quite familiar with Big Ten football and the tradition surrounding Penn State and the entire conference due to him growing up in Columbus, OH, the home of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Ethan Grunkemeyer has a number of other notable visits upcoming and could see a few new offers soon — he will be visiting Michigan State, Duke, Clemson, and more over the summer. Still, expect Penn State to keep close tabs on this 2024 Ohio quarterback and possibly land his commitment in the coming months; though he is not highly-ranked, he would be a solid pickup for the Nittany Lions.
