Penn State wrestling will be embracing the past when it takes on Rutgers later this season for the annual Bryce Jordan Center dual. Cael Sanderson’s squad is off to a 2-0 start on the season as the Nittany Lions begin their quest for a third straight NCAA Championship. There will be a new wrinkle to both the singlets that Penn State will be wearing and the crowd at the BJC this February.
Penn State wrestling debuts retro singlets
Penn State wrestling will be debuting black and pink singlets for the first time in program history. Of course, black and pink were the original colors of Penn State. Eventually, the colors faded to navy blue and white after years of being exposed to the sun and becoming worn out.
We have seen other programs at Penn State use these alternate colors. It started with basketball a little over 5 years ago, and the Nittany Lions have typically played at least 1 game a year on the hardwood with the black and pink threads. It took a while before Penn State basketball lost in the black and pink jerseys, and many fans thought they were good luck.
This year, Penn State men’s soccer also debuted the color combination in a big match against Northwestern. The Nittany Lions snapped a 12-game winning streak by the Wildcats in that one. So, maybe there is some lucky mojo to wearing the throwback jerseys.
Blackout the BJC
Included in the post by Penn State wrestling on social was a call for all fans to wear black to BJC for the dual against Rutgers.
Nittany Lions fans are familiar with the traditional White Out that pretty much every sport at Penn State has organized, but this will be a new changeup that we may possibly see used by other sports like basketball.
Penn State will take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in the annual BJC dual on February 12, 2024. The match will be broadcast at 7:00 pm ET on the Big Ten Network.
