We’ve finally made it to one of the most important weeks for Penn State football. The Nittany Lions head to Columbus to take on Ohio State this Saturday. A team PSU has played closely over the years but has not been able to beat since 2016. Coming into the matchup, this might be the most confident group defensively that the Nittany Lions has had over the years. Yesterday, they accomplished another shutout and scored more than 60 points for the second time this season against UMass. But how does the opposing coach feel? Ryan Day had an interesting comment about where his team is at entering the game against Penn State.
Ryan Day says Ohio State is “nowhere near where we need to be”
In a game where many college football experts thought Purdue would cover the 19-point spread, Ohio State had other plans. The Buckeyes went into Ross-Aid Stadium and dominated the Boilermakers from start to finish. While they were missing several weapons on the offensive side of the ball, they still had their quarterback Kyle McCord, and star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. McCord finished the game against Purdue going 16-28 for 276 and 3 touchdown passes. While Harrision Jr. added 6 catches for 105 yards and 1 touchdown catch. The Buckeyes rolled to an impressive 41-7 road win.
Following the game, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day spoke to the media about where his team was at. Day said, “We are nowhere near where we need to be…We know we have a big challenge ahead of us. The preparation starts now.”
Not an overly surprising comment for Ryan Day to make. He seems to provide motivation to his team with comments that he makes to the media. To me, this is him saying, “Do not be satisfied with today’s results.” Regardless, this is one of the best offensive displays that Ohio State has put together this season. Penn State and Manny Diaz have a major challenge ahead of them on Saturday.
