There’s no sugar-coating it – it was a terrible weekend for Penn State football in Columbus. Not only did the Nittany Lions lose against Ohio State, but a poor offensive showing raised many existential questions about James Franklin and the long-term direction of the program. Nevertheless, all of the goals of this 2023 team are still firmly in play, and it starts with a rebound performance against the Indiana Hoosiers.
But after what can only be described as a completely inept performance from the offense, what do the Nittany Lions have to do to re-instill confidence in the fanbase moving forward? We tackle that and more in this week’s edition of our Penn State football gameday central.
Tailgate Talk Podcast: Picking up the pieces after a disaster at Ohio State
Tailgate Talk is a podcast that brings together lifelong friends and Penn State fans to cover all the happenings around the Nittany Lion football program. Each week, the gang provides their honest, unfiltered, and (sometimes) wild opinions in what can only be described as tailgate talk.
In this week’s episode, the gang breaks down what went wrong in Penn State’s 20-12 loss at Ohio State. From a shaky Drew Allar to poor wide receiver play, there’s plenty of blame to go around. But who is ultimately responsible for what could be one of the most disappointing losses of the James Franklin era?
A half-decade removed from the “great to elite” speech, Penn State football is still running into a glass ceiling against college football’s best. Will Franklin ever get over the hump against top teams? In addition, the fellas also discuss if there is anything Penn State can possibly show against Indiana that would re-instill confidence in the offense, or if the fanbase must wait on pins and needles for Michigan in 3 weeks.
As always, the guys finish with a preview of all the Week 9 college football action and their picks for Saturday’s slate.
