A concern coming into the 2024 season for the Penn State football team was the lack of dynamic pass catchers. Against West Virginia a week ago it was Trey Wallace who became the favorite target of Drew Allar. But against Bowling Green on Saturday it was Tyler Warren who set a new Nittany Lion record for receiving yards by a tight end in a single game.
Great tight ends have come through the Penn State football program. After Theo Johnson declared for the NFL Draft, many in Happy Valley knew that Tyler Warren would be the next great Nittany Lion tight end. Penn State dealt with a scare in the second game of the 2024 season from Bowling Green but pulled out a 34-27 win. After the Falcons drove down the field and scored a touchdown Drew Allar started the first drive of the day by connecting with Warren for 12 yards.
Allar went on to find Warren for 8 receptions racking up 146 receiving yards on the day. This set a new single-game record for receiving yards by a tight end at Penn State. After the game, Warren discussed what breaking the record meant to him.
“I appreciate being able to do something like that at Penn State with a lot of great tight ends,” Warren stated. “I think it speaks to our diversity as an offense.”

While the running game was fantastic for the Penn State football team, last week we saw the passing game take over against West Virginia. In a game where Trey Wallace was the No. 1 option, a week later it was Tyler Warren, James Franklin recognized that after the game.
“Tyler Warren was the guy today that got a bunch of opportunities and made the most of them,” Franklin said. “Obviously his play count and opportunities went up because we didn’t have Rap available so that was part of that as well.
“Last week, everyone was talking about Trey [Wallace] right? So, that’s just how things are going to go. But, that goes back to my point earlier, we just got to get more plays on offense. We have to get off the field on defense and we have to sustain drives on offense”
