Over the weekend, Penn State football recruiting hosted Blake Herbert, a highly sought-after four-star quarterback in the 2025 class. During his visit, Herbert impressed the coaching staff and earned an offer from the Nittany Lions. Upon departing from Happy Valley, it became evident that Penn State had made a significant impact on the promising high school junior. As reported by ON3, the Nittany Lions are now considered the frontrunners to secure his commitment.

Adding to their quarterback prospects, the Nittany Lions secured a commitment from Ethan Grunkemeyer, a three-star quarterback from Ohio, for the 2024 class. With the 2025 cycle approaching, the need for another quarterback is gradually becoming more pressing for Penn State.

Penn State football makes good impression with major four-star quarterback

Penn State football has made a significant impact on four-star quarterback Blake Herbert, positioning themselves as strong favorites to secure his commitment, according to the ON3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Herbert, a highly talented quarterback from Lawrence, MA, has expressed a keen interest in the university; it’s a good sign to see James Franklin establishing his team as a top candidate early for a top 70 recruit like Herbert.

Herbert is widely regarded as a top prospect, earning a four-star rating and being ranked as the No. 65 recruit in the 2025 class, the sixth-best quarterback nationally, and the top recruit in Massachusetts, as per ON3’s rankings.

Based on the RPM, regional programs such as Boston College, Virginia, and Rutgers are currently considered strong contenders for Herbert’s recruitment, collectively comprising the majority of his top four choices. However, Penn State football holds a commanding lead of over 43% — nearly 20% over the closest competition — solidifying their position as the front-runners.

Despite being a high school junior, Herbert possesses a well-built physique, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 213 pounds. Additionally, his exceptional arm strength further enhances his appeal as an ideal target for the Nittany Lions.
