On Saturday, we saw two Penn State football running backs get back to their old ways. As Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen both eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the Nittany Lions in the same game. Following the strong effort from both players, they discussed how they’ve improved from last season and how they feed off each other.

Nicholas Singleton lacked explosive plays in 2023 just like the entire Penn State football offense. During his true freshman season, that’s what he was known for, the breakaway speed that separated him from the pack. But he has rushed for over 100 yards in both games in 2024, after his strong outing against Bowling Green, he discussed how he has grown from last season.

“For me, just running different, being more patient and obviously, receiving the ball better,” Singleton said. “Just trying to be a complete back from last year, too.”

Singleton has racked up 233 rushing yards in just two outings in 2024.

Kaytron Allen made a strong impact as well

It wasn’t just Singleton who made the effort on the ground possible against the Falcons. Penn State running back Kaytron Allen also made his presence known after a bounce-back performance against Bowling Green. Allen finished the day with 101 rushing yards. After the game, he explained what that type of performance meant to him.

“It gives me a lot of confidence because I know I can do it, “Allen said. Any time I get the ball I want to make something happen, make a play for my team, get my team going. And that can be anything. That could be blocking, getting the ball, any time I’m in there — I just love playing football. All my life, I’ve played football and this is what I enjoy doing, love playing.”
