This Penn State wide receiver took to social media to defend his teammates. Is he right? Or do the Nittany Lion fans have a point with the wide receiver struggles in 2023?

It’s no secret that the Penn State football wide receiver room struggled in 2023. Whether it was due to inaccuracy from the quarterback or the wide receiver’s lack of creating separation the players could not put together consistent success. Heading into the 2024 offseason it feels that it’s a top priority to bring in other players from the transfer portal to boost the room. Newly hired offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki might be able to work some magic with the current players, but you’d have to imagine additional competition is needed in the room. But current Penn State wide receiver Kaden Saunders didn’t see it that way and took to social media to express this on Saturday night.

Kaden Saunders started the 2023 season as the team’s punt returner. But after Daequan Hardy took multiple punts back for touchdowns against UMass Saunders mostly lost that role. But his opportunities grew on the field at the wide receiver position as the season went on. In garbage time against Ohio State, he had his most impactful catches of the season. But overall he only finished with 6 catches for 56 yards and 1 touchdown on the season.

Penn State football fans have been critical of the wide receiver room and Kaden Saunders took notice. He tweeted, “All I see on my twitter is stuff about our wide receiver… We have more than enough talent trust me lol”

While I appreciate Saunders sticking up for his teammates something isn’t adding up. It’s unclear if he’s pointing the finger at poor QB play, or if there’s a different issue going on. I won’t speculate here but if there’s enough talent it did not show up on the field in 2023.

Could Julian Fleming solve some issues?

Everyone is waiting for Julian Fleming to announce that he is transferring to Penn State. In a recent update, the Nittany Lions are still the favorite to land the former Ohio State wide receiver. He could fix the culture issue in the wide receiver room as he has been around great talent and tremendous coaching.
