After an exhilarating Week 1 win against West Virginia, Penn State football moves on to face Delaware on Saturday. Handicapping a matchup against an FCS school is always difficult, but the Nittany Lions are expected to be heavy favorites in this game. But, there’s still an opportunity to get ahead, so break out your wallet for this week’s betting odds.

Betting Odds:

Spread:

Penn State (-41) vs. Delaware

James Franklin’s Nittany Lions enter Saturday’s matchup as a 41-point favorite. Penn State is 7-0-1 against the spread in its previous 8 games. Delaware is 5-1 against the spread in its previous 6 games.

Penn State vs. Delaware Game Predictions:

These games can tend to get ugly fast, and expect nothing different for this matchup. While Delaware is a formidable FCS team and ranked No. 19 in the latest coaches poll, the talent gap is going to be too large on Saturday for this one to be competitive.

Penn State football should find itself up by 4 or 5 touchdowns by halftime and should impose its will on the lines of scrimmage. This will be a great opportunity for Penn State to get a lot of experience for the underclassmen and prepare them for games later this season and the next few years.

The spread is a lean for this game, but I wouldn’t necessarily feel super confident. While it could be a blowout, there also could be some weird stuff that happens in the 4th quarter when the 3rd stringers are in the game. I would feel more confident in taking the over than the spread. So at this time, I would only lean towards that pick. Betting games against FCS teams is always dicey in general because the odds you get are never going to be favorable for the Power Conference team.

Prediction:  Penn State 52 – Delaware 7

Big Ten Bet of the Week:

Temple (1-0) @ Rutgers (1-0) (7:30 PM BTN) –  Under 44.5

Most people probably won’t even realize this game is happening in the primetime window. After all, it is two teams that historically are bottom-feeders in their respective conferences. Temple squeaked out a 24-21 come-from-behind victory over Akron last week. Rutgers, on the other hand, had a rather dominant performance against Northwestern 24-7 to open their 2023 campaign.

While the Scarlet Knights looked solid defensively against the Wildcats, their offense struggled at times to throw the football. Temple struggled with Akron for much of the game, and its offense took a half to get going. Expect this game to stay under the number as both offenses will take a little bit to get going. I expect the Rutgers defense to shut Temple down and ultimately keep this total somewhere in the 30s. This is a game for college football sickos only. Enjoy!
