A pair of former Penn State football players are being charged with rape and other sex crimes Tuesday for allegations that occurred this past July. Defensive end Jameial Lyons and linebacker Kaveion Keys were arraigned in Magisterial Court in Centre County for crimes ranging from invasion of privacy to forcible rape.

Jameial Lyons is facing four felonies and two misdemeanors for rape, indecent assault, and other sex crimes for the alleged incident, which took place on July 7. Kaveion Keys has been charged with three felonies for rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault, and one misdemeanor assault charge.

Both Lyons and Keys will have their cases heard by Magisterial District Judge Don Hahn. Preliminary hearings have been set for October 30.

According to initial reporting from Bret Pallotto of the Centre Daily Times, Penn State sent out a Clery Act notice during the summer indicating that a student reported being sexually assaulted around 1 a.m. on the morning of July 7. The notice said police were following up on the incident at that time.

In late July, reports surfaced that the pair of Nittany Lion defenders had been placed on interim suspension. Three days later, Lyons and Keys were removed from the Penn State football program and were no longer enrolled at the university.

Jameial Lyons played in eight games during his true freshman season last fall, recording six tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Kaveion Keys maintained his redshirt, making one tackle in two games.

Penn State football returns from its second bye of the season on Saturday by traveling to play the Wisconsin Badgers. James Franklin met with the media Monday afternoon; he will do so again on Wednesday evening.
