In June, Penn State football landed a centerpiece of its 2026 recruiting class when four-star quarterback Troy Huhn committed to James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. Now, the Mission Hills (California) junior and top 10 quarterback is opening up about how his relationship with Franklin and the Penn State staff makes him feel at ease with the long-distance recruitment.

“Yeah, so, a lot of things went into that decision,” Huhn told Matt Candelario of KUSI News this weekend. “I mean, I’ve been all around the country. And just being there, that family atmosphere they have; Coach Franklin, the head coach, is just, there’s nobody like him in the entire country.

“Coach [Danny] O’Brien, their quarterbacks coach, is awesome. The whole entire staff. When I got there, I knew it was the right fit right when I stepped on campus.”

Troy Huhn committed to Penn State football on June 25, less than a week after this second visit to campus. A top 60 prospect and the No. 6 quarterback in On3’s class of 2026 recruiting rankings, Huhn recently returned to Happy Valley for the Lasch Bash in July.

Although two years and 2,000 miles separate him and his enrollment, Huhn is already gearing up to join James Franklin and the Nittany Lions.

“I’m really excited to get out there and learn their playbook,” he said. “And just grow as a player and a person, most importantly, as a person. I mean, their staff is really going to help me grow and get to that next level, my dream of the NFL. And so I just really know that right when I step on campus, it’s going to be a lot of fun from there on. I can’t wait.”

Troy Huhn threw his first touchdown pass of the year in Mission Hill’s 28-17 loss to Granite Hills in Friday night’s season opener.

With six commitments, Penn State football has the nation’s second-ranked class in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
