With the NFL preseason now officially in the books, the league’s 32 teams were required to finalize their 53-man rosters by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. A multitude of former Penn State football standouts, including Trace McSorley, Sean Clifford, and Allen Robinson, were among those on the receiving end of those difficult conversations this afternoon.
Ultimately, McSorley, Clifford, and Robinson were some of over a dozen ex-Nittany Lions who were released from eight NFL rosters leading up to 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The full list is as follows:
- Arizona Cardinals: Wide Receiver Dan Chisena
- Buffalo Bills: Cornerback Daequan Hardy, Wide Receiver KJ Hamler
- Green Bay Packers: Cornerback Kalen King, Quarterback Sean Clifford
- Jacksonville Jaguars: Cornerback Amani Oruwariye, Safety Adrian Amos
- New York Giants: Safety Jonathan Sutherland, Wide Receiver Allen Robinson
- Philadelphia Eagles: Defensive Lineman PJ Mustipher, Linebacker Brandon Smith
- Tennessee Titans: Safety Keaton Ellis
- Washington Commanders: Cornerback Tariq Castro-Fields, Quarterback Trace McSorley, Wide Receiver Mitchell Tinsley

In addition to the 15 Penn State football lettermen cut on Tuesday, former Nittany Lion and Texas Tech cornerback Zech McPhearson was also released by the Eagles after two seasons in Philadelphia.
Still to be determined is how many of these ex-Nittany Lions will return to their teams, or other organizations, as members of practice squads. Week 1 of the NFL season kicks off on Thursday, September 7, when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Baltimore Ravens.
