Top 5 WR, NJ’s No. 1 recruit coming off ‘amazing visit’ with Penn State football

One of the top wide receivers in the 2025 cycle was impressed by his “amazing visit” with Penn State football last week. Will it be enough to keep him out of the hands of the Nittany Lions’ Big Ten foes?

Quincy Porter (0) of Bergen Catholic completes a pass during a football game between Bergen Catholic High School and St. Joseph Regional High School at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

With 2025 recruiting now in full swing as the calendar turns to June, Penn State football hopes to turn a busy month of official visits into success on the trial. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions didn’t have to look far for one of the nation’s best prospects, hosting top New Jersey recruit Quincy Porter for a return trip to Happy Valley last weekend.

By Porter’s own account, the visit was a success for the Nittany Lions. But will the “amazing visit” leave enough of a lasting impression to sway the elite 2025 wide receiver away from the rival Big Ten programs that will also be making a push for his talents this month?

Top 5 wide receiver starts June with “amazing visit” with Penn State football

Penn State football kicked off its first official visit weekend of the summer last Saturday, bringing almost a dozen prospects to Happy Valley with the hopes of adding to its 2025 class. At the top of the visitors’ list was Quincy Porter, a four-star wide receiver from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey.

The visit was Porter’s second trip to Penn State since March, but only the third of his recruitment. There’s still plenty of ground to cover for the Nittany Lions, but James Franklin and Marques Hagans appear to have taken steps in that direction.

“Thank you Penn State for an amazing visit,” Porter wrote on social media Monday, posting pictures with Franklin and Hagans from the weekend.

Will Quincy Porter end up at a Big Ten rival?

The No. 31 player nationally, Quincy Porter is the top prospect in New Jersey and the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting cycle, per On3. 247Sports has him as the 12th-best wide receiver and the No. 2 recruit out of the Garden State.

With 48 catches for 1,066 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior, Porter was the 2023 MaxPreps New Jersey High School Player of the Year.

However, even with Porter’s proximity to Happy Valley, keeping the elite receiver in the region will be a challenge for James Franklin and his staff. On3 currently gives Michigan the edge in this recruitment, with Penn State and Ohio State neck-and-neck.

Porter will be in Columbus this upcoming weekend for his official visit with the Buckeyes. A trip to Ann Arbor follows on June 14. Porter rounds out the month with a visit to Oklahoma, the first of his recruitment.

Where is the Nittany Lions’ wide receiver recruiting in the 2025 recruiting cycle?

While it likely won’t be Quincy Porter, whichever wide receiver commits to Penn State football next will be only the program’s second in the 2025 cycle. Three-star Lyrick Samuel joined the Nittany Lions’ class back in February.

Top in-state wide receiver Lex Cyrus is a player many have expected to join the class for some time, earning a crystal ball from 247Sports in February. Cyrus made his official visit last weekend, but will visit South Carolina on Saturday.

According to On3, James Franklin and Penn State currently have 71 offers extended to receivers in the 2025 recruiting cycle. By and large, June’s visits will go a long way toward determining who will, or won’t, become a Nittany Lion come signing day.
