One of the Keystone State’s top prospects in the 2026 recruiting cycle has suffered a significant setback heading into the 2024 season. This week, Westinghouse defensive back/running back and Penn State football target Kyshawn Robinson revealed that he will miss his entire junior year due to a hip injury.

The four-star recruit first announced the news Wednesday via social media.

Robinson later elaborated on the situation to Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “It’s an injury on the bone, and they have to deal with it with surgery,” said Robinson. “I’m not sure what exactly it is. It’s some kind of hip impingement or fracture.”

Feeling pain at times during training camp this month, Robinson said that doctors believe the injury occurred during the 2023 season.

“I still played the whole season,” he stated. “They said that’s what probably made it worse.”

“When they first told me, I cried because this was going to be our breakout year, Robinson told White of the emotional moment when doctors broke the news. “We’re going to win states. I’ll still be a part of the team, but I just won’t be able to contribute. But we can still win a state championship.”

Westinghouse opens its season Saturday night against Beaver Area in the KDKA Kickoff Classic at Wolvarena, Turtle Creek.

Despite the injury, Kyshawn Robinson will likely remain one of the most sought-after in-state prospects in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Robinson ranks in the top 300 nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings and the 247Sports Composite.

A two-way threat, On3 evaluates the western Pennsylvania prospect as the No. 31 athlete nationally and the No. 14 player in the state. Robinson is viewed as the nation’s 19th-best safety in America and the 7th-best recruit in the commonwealth by 247Sports.

Robinson holds over 30 offers but has narrowed his list to six finalists: Penn State, Pitt, West Virginia, Ohio State, Florida State, and Colorado. He’s visited James Franklin and the Nittany Lions twice, both in 2023.

Penn State football currently has the No. 2 class nationally in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The Nittany Lions hold commitments from Harrisburg’s Kevin Brown and Messiah Mickens, the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked players in the state, respectively.
