Each week the AP Top 25 poll is released for the 25 best college football teams in the country. After week 3 of the college football season, the Penn State football team is currently ranked 7th overall in the AP Poll. However, that’s not how all AP voters felt about the Nittany Lions. Some felt like Penn State should be higher, while others had Penn State lower than 7. But one of the most egregious votes came from PAC12 voter Jon Wilner.
Penn State football snubbed by PAC12 voter in the latest AP Poll
I’m not sure if this was an angry vote due to the conference dissolving after this season, but it felt fueled by something. After Penn State put together a quality week 1 win over West Virginia. Then, followed that up with a 63-7 victory over Delaware, Jon Wilner thought that Penn State was the 12th best team in the country.
This of course was the lowest vote that the Penn State football team received. Thankfully it’s not the only vote that matters, it’s people like this that make you question how much football are the AP voters watching. I understand that it’s not their top priority to watch Penn State play Delaware, but when you put the full body of work together Penn State is at the very least a top 10 team in the country.
The Nittany Lions open Big Ten Play
This weekend the Penn State football team opens conference play as they take on Illinois. This will be the first time the Nittany Lions face the Fighting Illini since the 2021 disaster 9 OT game, where Penn State lost.
There is significance behind this game for Drew Allar. As the sophomore star quarterback will make his official first road start of his career. Look for Allar and the Nittany Lions to make a statement in their conference opener. Penn State is currently a 15.5-point favorite heading into this matchup.
