Penn State football set to make history with 2024 White Out announcement

For the 2nd time in school history Penn State football is set to host the annual White Out in November.

On Monday, Penn State football announced the date and opponent of their annual White Out game for the 2024 season. The announcement has Big Ten newcomer Washington pegged as this year’s White Out opponent. The Huskies are coming off a historic run to the National Championship last season, where Michigan defeated them. The other home game themes for the Nittany Lions for the remaining 2024 home games were also part of the announcement.

Reports: Penn State White Out potentially set for afternoon kick

A twist in the White Out tale could be on the horizon this season. The White Out game at Beaver Stadium has often kicked off at night. However, some believe that this season could be different. A 3:30 ET or 7:00 ET kickoff could be in the cards for this year’s White Out contest against the Washington Huskies, according to Audrey Snyder of the Athletic.

Don’t get your pitchforks yet, Penn State fans. Slated for November 9th, a White Out game kicking at 3:30 might not be all bad. This late in the season, the sun would likely set by the end of the first half. A great gameday atmosphere will almost surely still be in place for Nittany Lion fans.

A November White Out game is a rare occurrence for Penn State football. The 2024 iteration will be the second time taking place in November since its inception in 2004. The only other occurrence was a loss to Michigan on November 21, 2015.

Penn State also announced the other themes for this year’s home contests. The first two home opponents, Bowling Green and Kent State will be ‘107k Family Reunion/THON’ and ‘Military Appreciation,’ respectively. The next round of home games, vs Illinois and UCLA, will be ‘Homecoming/Generations of Greatness’ and ‘Stripe Out.’

To round out the season, Ohio State will get the ‘Helmet Stripe’ treatment, and Maryland will be Senior Day. Penn State fans have voiced frustration recently due to the best home opponent not getting the White Out treatment in recent years. However, it is understood that the Nittany Lions are handcuffed by TV networks in this regard. A TV network announcement will be forthcoming for the 2024 White Out game against Washington in the future.
