The Penn State football team has been rolling on the recruiting trail. But one of the commitments potentially lost in the shuffle this week was quarterback Troy Huhn from the 2026 recruiting class. The search for the quarterback of the future is always a challenge. Now, the Nittany Lions know they have secured that program building block. Following his commitment, On3 national scouting director Charles Power shared high praise for the newest member of the 2026 cycle.

On Tuesday, Hayes Fawcett announced that Troy Huhn had officially made his commitment to the Penn State football team. Huhn is a 6-3 195-pound quarterback from San Marcos (California). According to On3, Huhn is the No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 class. He ranks as the No. 6 player in California and is a top-60 prospect in the country.

With this big-time addition, many are wondering how the newest Nittany Lion compares to some of the top talent in the 2026 recruiting class. The scouting director for On3, Charles Power, recently explained why he believes Huhn is one of the best in his class.

“Troy Huhn has a big-league arm at this stage in this stage of his development,” Power said. “From watching that group of 2026 quarterbacks, I am away thinking he has some of the best arm talent of the group.”

A common theme among Nittany Lion QBs

It seems all Penn State football highly recruited quarterbacks have one theme in common and that is arm strength. Drew Allar, Jaxon Smolik, Ethan Grunkemeyer, Bekkem Kritza (2025 commit), and now Troy Huhn (2026 commit) have received similar feedback during the recruiting process.

One of the most underrated within the group is Smolik, who suffered an injury this spring that kept him sidelined for the Blue-White Game in April. However, during fall camp last season, it was head coach James Franklin who called out Smolik specifically for being the surprise of fall camp.

To play in the dynamic offense led by Andy Kotelnicki, a quarterback needs to be able to make every throw. It appears that the national scouts are confident that Troy Huhn can deliver on that.
