The Penn State football team is working to replace linebacker Curtis Jacobs, who is off to the NFL. The Nittany Lions are also dealing with a position change, as Abdul Carter has moved from linebacker to defensive end this offseason. On Wednesday the depth of the linebacking core took another hit, as Keon Wylie is set to miss significant time due to an injury according to reports.
Penn State football LB to miss “significant” time due to injury
Keon Wylie was a three-star LB prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. From Philadelphia, PA, Wylie has strong roots in Pennsylvania and has been working his way up the depth chart. During his first two seasons with the Penn State football team, he has appeared in 16 games.
Wylie appeared in 13 games last season on special teams and defense, accounting for for 17 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. Overall, he is viewed as a player that was trending in the right direction for the Nittany Lions. However, on Wednesday it was first reported by Blue White Illustrated and later confirmed by Tyler Donohue of Lions247 , the redshirt sophomore linebacker Keon Wylie will miss “significant” time due to an unspecified injury.
Reviewing the linebacker depth
Keon Wylie was pressing for a more significant role in 2024 on the field. How are the Nittany Lions shaping up with his absence? The experience will come from Kobe King, Tyler Elsdon, and Dom DeLuca this season. But players who will push for more playing time include Kaveion Keys, Tony Rojas, and Ta’Mere Robinson.
While losing Wylie is a hit to the depth at the position Penn State has some up-and-coming prospects that should be able to fill the gap that Wylie has created.
