Veteran Penn State DB no longer with program, multiple WRs hit transfer portal

Don’t blink, or you just may miss an update to the Penn State football roster.

After the Nittany Lions’ run to the College Football Playoff Semifinal last week, the program must now squeeze over a month’s worth of roster activity into a few short days. The five-day window following Thursday’s Orange Bowl for players to enter the transfer portal is now approaching its conclusion. The deadline to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft is Wednesday.

Amid the surprising news of Tom Allen’s departure for Clemson and the notable return of Nittany Lion stars Nicholas Singleton, Kaytron Allen, and Dani Dennis-Sutton on Monday, Penn State football experienced some outgoing roster churn as well.

The Nittany Lions offense lost a pair of third-year wide receivers to the transfer portal on Monday morning, with redshirt sophomores Mehki Flowers and Tyler Johnson exiting the program. Neither recorded any receptions this fall despite appearing in eight and ten games, respectively.

On the defensive side of the ball, reports Monday evening indicate that safety Tyrece Mills is also no longer with the program. However, it’s not readily apparent if Mills plans to enter the transfer portal in search of a new college program or try his hand at the NFL. Appearing in 13 of 16 games, Mills had 15 total tackles in 2024. He also had a game-ending interception in last month’s Fiesta Bowl.

As of Tuesday morning, Penn State football has seen seven players officially enter the transfer portal. Only quarterback Beau Pribula and tight end Jerry Cross have announced their next steps at the college level. Additionally, junior cornerback Cam Miller is expected to enter the portal, although he has not officially done so.

• Tyler Johnson, WR – Entered portal on January 13.
• Cam Miller, CB – Expected to enter portal.
• Tyrece Mills, S – No longer with the program.

• King Mack, S – Entered portal from Alabama on January 3. Committed on January 9.
