Penn State football is expected to have starting quarterback Drew Allar available for Saturday afternoon’s top-five clash with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The status of the Nittany Lions signal caller had been in question this week after he exited in the first half of last Saturday’s win over Wisconsin with an apparent left leg injury.
Allar’s status was revealed in Penn State’s availability report, which is required to be released by the Big Ten two hours before kickoff each week. The junior quarterback was not listed among those Nittany Lions ruled as “questionable” or “out” against the Buckeyes. Those that were include:
OUT:
- KJ Winston, S
- Kaden Saunders, WR
- Quinton Martin, RB
- Cam Wallace, RB
- Keon Wylie, LB
- Zuriah Fisher, DE
- Andrew Rappleyea, TE
QUESTIONABLE:
- Dani Dennis-Sutton, DE
- Anthony Donkoh, RT
Drew Allar did not play in the second half last weekend in Madison after going down awkwardly on a sack at the end of the second quarter. He came out of the halftime break with a brace on his left knee. However, Allar did practice during Wednesday’s media viewing window, and reports on Friday suggested he would be available to play on Saturday.
“If Drew was not able to practice – and you guys were at practice today – if Drew was unable to practice, then Grunk’s [Ethan Grunkemeyer] getting reps,” James Franklin said Wednesday. “But if you try to get three quarterbacks ready, you get zero quarterbacks ready.
“So you guys saw Drew was able to take reps today. So the reps have gone between Drew and Beau [Pribula].”
