We appear to be heading toward an all-time classic uniform matchup on Thursday night at the Orange Bowl when the basic blues of Penn State football will meet the golden domes of Notre Dame.

On Sunday, the Penn State football social media accounts put out a post seeming to indicate that the Nittany Lions will wear their home uniforms when the team arrives in Miami later this week.

The College Football Playoff gives deference to the higher seed when it comes to uniform selection. In the first round, Penn State donned its “Generations of Greatness” look against SMU. Despite being located on the “home” side of State Farm Stadium, Boise State chose to wear its white jerseys for last week’s Fiesta Bowl

But even if the Nittany Lions are clad in blue on the field, James Franklin is calling on the Penn State football faithful to White Out Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night.

“Our fans are special,” he said on Saturday. “We recognize that, and we’re expecting a huge crowd in Miami, and I challenge everybody to wear white and [bring] White Out energy. We want that place rocking. Probably more hoodies than tee shirts, from what I’ve heard on the weather report. But we need that place rocking, and we appreciate the support that we always get.”

“Obviously a well-rounded team, Franklin said of the Fighting Irish. “Obviously, you don’t get to this point in the season without being good in all three phases. So far, got a ton of respect for what we’ve seen on film and what we’ve studied, and we’ve got a lot of work to do. Excited about the opportunity.”

Kickoff in South Beach is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
