James Franklin and Penn State football are making a play to flip a blue chip wide receiver who has already committed to play in the Big Ten conference. The new reports come after the Nittany Lions hosted Milford Mill Academy (Maryland) four-star and USC pledge Romero Ison at the Ohio State game last Saturday.

“The coaches always show tons of love and make it feel like home,” Ison told On3’s Steve Wiltfong of the visit earlier this week.

Romero Ison committed to USC in April. Ranked No. 156 overall in On3’s 2025 recruiting rankings, Ison is rated No. 20 among receivers and as the fifth prospect out of Maryland for the cycle.

James Franklin has been active in the flip market in the 2025 cycle in the closing weeks before National Signing Day. The Nittany Lions have flipped three prospects from other programs this fall and are predicted to also land five-star cornerback Brandon Finney, who is currently committed to Oregon.

Penn State football has the 15th-ranked class in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to On3.
