Penn State football added its first commitment to the 2027 recruiting class on Friday as WPIAL standout running back Kemon Spell announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

The McKeesport, Pennsylvania, native is coming off of a strong freshman season where he rushed for 579 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught two passing touchdowns, returned an interception for a score, and found the endzone off a missed field goal.

Although currently unranked on all major recruiting sites, Kemon Spell is considered one of the top emerging running back prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle.

The 5-10, 195 recruit holds offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Florida State, among others.

James Franklin and Penn State football extended a scholarship offer to the rising prospect in May. He visited the Nittany Lions last weekend for the Lasch Bash.

“I [want to thank] the coaches and the staff for giving me this opportunity,” Spell wrote in his commitment announcement on social media. [I] won’t disappoint.”

Currently, there are no class rankings for the 2027 recruiting cycle.
