The Dallas Cowboys were victorious on the field Thursday night, but it could come at the cost of one of the NFL’s superstars, linebacker Micah Parsons. The status of the former Penn State football standout remains in doubt as he awaits further testing on Friday after exiting late in the Cowboys’ 20-15 win with an injury.

With less than four remaining in the fourth quarter, Parsons rushed the center of the line of scrimmage on a pivotal third down. Giants center John Michael Schmitz blocked the ex-Nittany Lion into right guard Greg Van Roten, who folded over Parsons’ left leg as the two collapsed to the MetLife Stadium turf.

“As I was planting, a guy fell on me,” Parsons told reporters after the game.

Confirming afterward that he had suffered an ankle injury, Micah Parsons writhed in pain before Cowboys training staff helped him walk off the field.

He later exited the sideline on a golf cart with his shoe removed. Parsons was reportedly walking with a noticeable limp after the game.

The former Penn State football star defender shared in postgame availability that initial x-rays were negative. He is set to undergo an MRI on Friday in Dallas.

“Right now, I just iced it,” he said. “I know very little. I’ve got an MRI, and I’m going to try to get back next week.” The Harrisburg native would add that he’s never felt that way on a football field before Thursday night.

Parsons had two tackles in the game before his injury. The ex-Penn State linebacker now has 14 tackles and one sack through four games this year.

The Cowboys will next face the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6.
