Ex-Nittany Lions WR joins former Penn State football coordinator via transfer portal

Another former member of the Penn State football program has found a new home out of the transfer portal. On Monday, Akron announced that it had signed ex-Nittany Lions wide receiver Mehki Flowers, meaning the rising redshirt junior will now play for one-time Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead.

Flowers entered the transfer portal on January 13. In its announcement, Akron noted that it had signed Flowers as a safety, where he played his first two seasons with Penn State football before switching to receiver in 2024.

Flowers appeared in 14 games over three seasons with the Nittany Lions, primarily on special teams. He recorded two tackles during his time in Happy Valley.

Out of Central Dauphin East in Harrisburg, Flowers was a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
