Nittany Lions fans won’t have to wait much longer to see if James Franklin and Penn State football can land one of their top wide receiver targets in the 2025 cycle.

Top 2025 Maryland wide receiver and Penn State football target Jeff Exinor is set to take his name off the board this week. The McDonogh pass catcher announced on Sunday afternoon that he will make a commitment decision for this upcoming Friday, June 28.

The announcement comes hours after Exinor wrapped up his official visit with the in-state Maryland Terrapins. It was the fourth time he visited with Michael Locksley and his staff.

Jeff Exinor took his official visit to Penn State over the first weekend of June. Coming out of the stay, Blue-White Illustrated’s Sean Fitz and 247Sports’ Brian Dohn both predicted that the 6-1, 215-pound wide receiver will commit to the Nittany Lions.

Who is in the running for Jeff Exinor?

Jeff Exinor also visited Brent Pry and Virginia Tech for an official visit in April. He was scheduled to see Syracuse last weekend but ultimately didn’t, leading many to believe Friday’s commitment will be a three-way race between the Nittany Lions, Terrapins, and Hokies.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives Penn State football an 89% chance of landing the McDonogh receiver.

Exinor is rated as the No. 9 prospect in Maryland and the No. 52 wide receiver (No. 341 recruit nationally) in On3’s Industry Rankings for the 2025 recruiting cycle. The 247Sports Composite slots Exinor as the state’s seventh-best recruit and the No. 11 athlete in the country (No. 273 nationally).

On3 and 247Sports both rank Exinor as the best wide receiver in Maryland for 2025.

Can Penn State football go on a commitment run at wide receiver?

Much like the central Pennsylvania summer, James Franklin and Penn State football have been getting hot on the recruiting trail recently.

The Nittany Lions have added six prospects to the 2025 recruiting class since June 10, including three over the weekend.

Five of these six commitments have been on the defensive side of the ball, four of which have come in the secondary. Penn State also added top in-state running back Jabree Wallace-Coleman Saturday night.

However, the Nittany Lions have yet to add another wide receiver to the 2025 recruiting class since Lyrick Samuel committed in February. That could change Friday if Jeff Exinor pledges to the Blue and White.

And there could be more talent out wide joining soon as well. Top Pennsylvania receiver Lex Cyrus also holds multiple predictions to commit to the Nittany Lions. Many thought a commitment would have happened by now, with the Susquehanna Township star’s visits wrapping up in early June. But sometimes, the waiting is the hardest part.

The Nittany Lions also appear to be in a good position with Virginia wide receiver Matthew Outten. The I.C. Norcom pass catcher visited on June 7 following a trip to Syracuse. On3 currently favorites Franklin and his staff over the Orange.

Penn State football currently has the No. 15 recruiting class in the country, according to On3, while 247Sports ranks the Nittany Lions at No. 11 nationally.
