If you follow Penn State football you know that the Nittany Lions are fortunate enough to have two star running backs. For many college football teams finding one is challenging enough. But since the 2022 season Penn State has had Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen in the back field leading the way.

To this day, many include Nick Singleton in the conversation as one of the best running backs in the country. But often Kaytron Allen is the second name mentioned in that discussion. In reality, Allen and Singleton are interchangeable and both could be the No. 1 option on another team.

In today’s college football that could lead to jealously or even force one player to transfer to another school. Instead, it has led to a stronger bond between Allen and Singleton. They push each other and continue to learn from each other. Kaytron Allen, recently opened up about his relationship with Singleton to Blue White Illustrated.

“Nick’s my guy, for real. We help each other a lot. We compete against each other. He made me get better. I hope I help him get better. So, we always trying to compete and help each other get better and learn from each other for real. I think that’s what makes us tighter because we are learning it from each other and trying to compete against each other.

“We both support each other and help each other out,” Allen stated. “We aren’t being selfish towards each other, aren’t shying away from each other; like I said, we compete on and off the field. We’re always trying to talk and communicate with each other and tung to help each other grow for real. That’s why I think we continue to keep going and growing as the years go by.”

To start the season, many Penn State football fans wondered if Nick Singleton was going through  a sophomore slump. In 2023 he lacked explosive plays early in the season. But as the year went on Singleton found his stride and Kaytron Allen stayed consistent.

Allen led the team in rushing in 2023, he rushed for 902 yards and 6 touchdowns last fall. Singleton on the other hand ran for 752 yards and 8 touchdowns, he also accounted for 26 receptions for 302 yards and 2 touchdown catches.

With a new offensive coordinator at the helm in 2024 we caught up with Nick Singleton in Feburary and asked him about his impression of Andy Kotelnicki.
When asked about the addition of Kotelnicki, Singleton stated, “I saw the stats a little bit from Kansas, compared to what we did last year; that got me a little excited for that,” Nick Singleton said. “[He does] a lot of creative stuff. I’m excited about that.”
