The Penn State football team is coming off of one of its most dominant performances in recent history. Specifically, the defense for the Nittany Lions was able to control the entire game. The unit also was responsible for holding Iowa to zero points scored. Something that hasn’t happened to the Iowa Hawkeyes since the year 2000 against Illinois. It’s evident that Manny Diaz has been a terrific fit for this program but what does James Franklin think?
James Franklin spoke on the impact of Manny Diaz after Iowa win
Following the Iowa game, James Franklin spoke with the media. He had nothing but great things to say about Manny Diaz and his fit at Penn State.
Franklin said, “Manny [Diaz] is doing a great job. He really has done a good job of coming in and really embracing our culture and how we do things. But also bringing a perspective on his own as well. The staff has a ton of respect for him, our players have a ton of respect for him. We put a priority on athletism, there’s probably a few bigger defenses but we are athletic, and we are quick, fast, and explosive and we are playing more consistent gap sound defense.”
This athletic group has caused nine turnovers in the past two games. Against Iowa, the Penn State football defense only allowed 76 total yards for the game. That is broken down between 56 passing and 20 rushing yards. They forced Iowa to go 1-9 on 3rd down conversions and forced 4 fumbles.
Manny Diaz has his group dialed in right now and it’s at the perfect point of the season, during Big Ten conference play.
