Arguably the Penn State football team’s most well-known commitment in the 2025 recruiting class is LaVar Arrington II. A large reason for that of course is due to the legacy that his father LaVar Arrington created as a member of LBU in Happy Valley. But now that he is part of the Nittany Lions‘ 2025 recruiting class, his head coach Dom Farrar has explained how his commitment is like a homecoming to Arrington II.

LaVar Arrington made his presence known during his Penn State football playing career. Arrington played for Joe Paterno between 1997 and 1999. During his career with the Nittany Lions, he was named a consensus All-American. He went on to become the No. 2 pick in the 2000 NFL Draft and played six seasons in the NFL.

Fast forward to 2024, and his son LaVar Arrington II is walking in his father’s footsteps. After making his commitment to Penn State on July 4, his head coach at Charter Oak (California) Dom Farrar has explained to Blue White Illustrated why Penn State makes the most sense for Arrington II.

“At the end of the day, the reality is he’s going home. Penn State is family to him. He was raised on that property.”

While there are higher-ranked defenders in the 2025 recruiting class for Penn State football, LaVar Arrington II might be the most versatile player in the cycle. Farrar has recently explained just how gifted Arrington II truly is.

“I’ve never seen an athlete in over 30 years be able to do what he does on the football field, especially on the defensive side of the field. Honestly, if we chose to, he’s a kid that could play every position on the field.”

Penn State football currently holds the No. 17 class in the 2025 cycle according to On3 with 22 verbal commits to date.
