A total of 329 players were invited to this week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, but Abdul Carter will not be among the prospects taking the field for workouts. According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the former Penn State football star is still recovering from the shoulder injury he suffered in December’s Fiesta Bowl.

Schefter cites Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who explained that the Nittany Lions edge rusher has just been cleared to resume training in preparation for Penn State’s pro day on March 28.

“We fully expect Abdul to be recovered in time to work out at his pro day at Penn State and he will perform at a very high level,” Rosenhaus told Schefter.

Instead, Carter will partake in interviews and physical exams with teams at the Combine this week.

Carter suffered a shoulder injury during the first half of the Nittany Lions’ College Football Playoff Quarterfinal victory over Boise State on December 31. He did not return against the Broncos, but did have five tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and one quarterback hurry against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl.

Before Monday’s news, the standout Penn State football defender wass viewed as a consensus top-five pick for April’s NFL Draft. Many consider the linebacker turned edge rusher as the top prospect in the 2025 Draft class.
