It’s uncommon for a player to decommit from one program during their recruiting process and then recommit to the same school. The relationship built and the trust that goes along with that from both sides needs time to heal. Penn State football had one of the top offensive tackles in the country in the 2025 recruiting class at one point. Now, former Penn State commit Jaelyne Matthews has released his final shortlist of schools that did not include the Nittany Lions.
Former Penn State commit moves on from the Nittany Lions
Jaelyne Matthews is a four-star recruit in the 2025 recruiting class. He is currently listed as the No. 2 player in New Jersey, the No. 10 offensive tackle in the country, and a top 100 player in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
Matthews committed to the Penn State football team on January 30, 2023. But just nine months later, in September, he decided to decommit from the Nittany Lions. On Sunday night, he released his final six schools, which included Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland, Rutgers, Miami, and Syracuse, according to a post he made on social media.
Ever since he decommitted from Penn State, he has not been back on campus and has continued to visit the schools in his top six. But this shows that the Nittany Lions are out of the hunt for one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class.
Current Penn State offensive line commits in 2025
With Matthews off the board, the Nittany Lions are not out of options on the offensive line this cycle. They currently hold commitments from two underrated players in 2025, starting with Michael Troutman a three-star interior offensive lineman from Wayne, NJ. Troutman is one of the more recent commits in the 2025 recruiting class.
Penn State also has Owen Aliciene in its 2025 class. A three-star offensive tackle from Avon, CT. Phil Trautwein will continue to push for more of the top offensive lineman in the country as life moves on past Jaelyne Matthews.
