The college football world begins the spring ball journey as each team looks to install a new offense and defense. New faces, including coaches and players, start to learn more about their teammates as well. For others, such as former Penn State football defensive end Jake Wilson, the springtime is where he will continue to look for a new home in the transfer portal. After spring ball wraps up, there will be additional roster turnover and roster openings. Now, Wilson has picked up an offer from Joe Moorhead and the Akron Zips.

Ex-Penn State player picks up transfer portal offer from former OC

Jake Wilson officially entered the transfer portal on January 2, 2024, which he announced on social media at the time. Wilson played defensive end and special teams for the Penn State football team and appeared in 27 games for the Nittany Lions. The ex-Penn State walk-on from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, has now shared some exciting news.

Wilson announced on social media that he has received an offer as a graduate transfer to continue his college football career at Akron. If he commits to the Zips, he would play for former Penn State offensive coordinator and current Akron head coach Joe Moorhead.

The offer was extended to Wilson by Akron defensive line coach Nyeem Wartman-White, who played linebacker for Penn State football from 2012 to 2016.

Ex-Penn State football offensive lineman still pending transfer decision

Ibrahim Traore is another ex-Nittany Lion who played on the offensive line during his time at Penn State. Traore entered the transfer portal a few days after Jake Wilson and picked up offers from Kent State and Buffalo. However, he has yet to decide on where he will continue his playing career.

Traore is from New York, so a reunion in Buffalo would make a lot of sense. Expect decisions to be made by Wilson and Traore once the transfer portal window opens for the spring period on April 15.
