On Sunday evening, former Penn State football quarterback Sean Clifford is slated to make his first preseason start. The ex-Nittany Lion will lead the Green Bay Packers against the Denver Broncos at 8 pm on NFL Network. He will face a familiar quarterback and 2024 first-round pick former Auburn and Oregon standout Bo Nix.

Sean Clifford versus Bo Nix head-to-head in an NFL preseason game, just like we all thought we’d see during the 2021 Whiteout. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced earlier in the week that starting QB Jordan Love will not play in the second preseason game.

This allows Clifford to showcase his skillset as an NFL player. He is currently in a battle for the backup quarterback position against ex-Tulane star Michael Pratt. Last weekend Clifford completed 10 of 19 passes for 119 yards against the Browns.

If Penn State fans know anything about Sean Clifford it’s that he played one of his best career games against Bo Nix and the Auburn Tigers in 2021. During that game, Clifford completed 28 of 32 passes for 280 yards and 2 touchdown passes. If he can recreate that magic on Sunday evening he will have a strong argument to remain Love’s backup in 2024.

A Nittany Lion who is working to make the 53 man roster for the Green Bay Packers is Kalen King. He was selected in the 7th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. King was notably known for his impressive 2022 campaign in Happy Valley. During that season he led the Big Ten with 21 pass breakups.

Now, as he works to fight for a roster spot with the Packers this fall, he has caught the eye of his head coach Matt LaFleur.

“He’s just really instinctive, he’s a really good football player,” LaFleur said about Kalen King. “The more opportunities he gets, the more he seems to show up and make plays.”
