The importance of the Penn State football team landing legacy targets is always at an all-time high. But recently, several players have chosen to go in a different direction. While others, are yet to make a final decision. Colsen Gatten who is a Penn State legacy target in the 2026 recruiting class has recently received an offer from ex-Nittany Lion head coach Bill O’Brien and Boston College. He has additionally, picked up an offer from Texas A&M this week as well.

Colsen Gatten is the son of Aaron Gatten who played linebacker for the Penn State football team in the late 1990s. Now, as a member of the 2026 recruiting class, Colsen has worked hard to earn his ranking. He holds a three-star ranking from Rivals, 247Sports, and On3. He was recently on campus visiting Penn State but now his recruitment is starting to pick up steam.

On Thursday, Gatten picked up an offer from Bill O’Brien and the Boston College Eagles. O’Brien coached the Nittany Lions for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Recently, we saw O’Brien reconnect with his former star quarterback Christian Hackenberg for the first time in many years.

Gatten offered by a rising SEC program

It wasn’t just Boston College that Gatten was starting to draw interest from. Also coming on Thursday, Gatten announced on Twitter/X that he received an offer from Mike Elko and Texas A&M. While these new scholarship offers roll in, Gatten has not taken a visit to either school at this time. Penn State still leads that category with five unofficial visits thus far. But now the competition is heating up for Gatten’s future commitment.
