The Penn State football team has seen players leave and seek playing time elsewhere over the years. Most times, that leads to success and finding a home, where others can develop for a few years to find a larger opportunity down the road. That’s the case for former Nittany Lion Joseph Appiah Darkwa, who left Penn State to play at Temple over the past few seasons. Now, he will seek a new opportunity, as he has re-entered the transfer portal.
Ex-Penn State football defender enters the transfer portal
Joseph Appiah Darkwa was part of the 2019 recruiting class for the Penn State football team. From North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, Darkwa was rated as the No. 2 prospect from Germany coming out of high school. He spent 2019 developing his game when he redshirted at Penn State.
Then, during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, he didn’t see any game action with the Nittany Lions. So ahead of the 2022 season, he entered the transfer portal and found a new home not too far away at Temple. Darkwa took advantage of his opportunities at Temple. In two seasons he accounted for 8 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack.
On Friday, Darkwa announced on social media that he entered the transfer portal to search for his third college.

While Penn State has not seen a lot of movement since the transfer portal opened on Tuesday, the program has lost two players.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith entered the transfer portal on Monday; he served as the leading pass catcher for the Nittany Lions last season. According to reports, several SEC schools have an interest in Lambert-Smith, and he has spent time visiting two programs this weekend. He was at Auburn from Thursday through Saturday and then at Texas A&M from Saturday through Monday. Lambert-Smith could be scheduling a visit to Big Ten newcomer USC as early as this week.
The Nittany Lions have also lost long-time special teams contributor and 2023 captain wide receiver Malick Meiga to the transfer portal as well. Meiga ended his Penn State career with 9 catches for 106 yards and 1 touchdown.
