James Franklin, Andy Kotelnicki, and Penn State football are set to receive a significant boost to the Nittany Lions’ offensive firepower in 2025. On Monday morning, junior quarterback Drew Allar announced his plans to return to Happy Valley for a fourth and final year.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report on Allar’s intentions for next fall. Allar confirmed the reports on social media shortly thereafter.

“This season has been the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life playing football and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team,” Allar wrote. “I know there’s still more work to do which is why I look forward to making more memories with my teammates this year and beyond.”

Allar has thrown for 5,869 yards with 50 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his Penn State football career. The junior quarterback has seen his complete rate rise from 60% a season ago to nearly 70% in 2024. Allar is also ninth in the nation in passing efficiency this year.

Monday’s news comes just over 12 hours after Nittany Lions backup quarterback Beau Pribula announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Sunday night. Both arriving in State College in the 2022 recruiting class, Pribula’s departure aligns with the decision by Allar to return for a third year as Penn State’s starting quarterback.

Drew Allar will become one of the marquee names in college football in 2025. A former five star and No. 1 quarterback in his recruiting class, the Medina, Ohio, native will be one of the most proven talents in the country at the quarterback position.

Of course, Allar’s junior season is not yet complete. Penn State football hosts SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff on Saturday at noon in Beaver Stadium.
