The Penn State football team is set to have another loaded defense in 2024. Leading the way for the Nittany Lions is former linebacker and now defensive end Abdul Carter. Now, ahead of the kickoff of the 2024 season Big Ten Network analyst Howard Griffith has praised the potential Carter has this fall.

Abdul Carter was a member of the 2022 recruiting class. The same recruiting class featured Drew Allar, Nick Singleton, and Kaytron Allen, among several others who are expected to play large roles for Penn State football this fall. Carter has transitioned from linebacker to defensive end for the 2024 season.

The move came to play to Carter’s strengths which is rushing the passes. During his career, he has accounted for 104 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.

Now Big Ten analyst and former Illinois Howard Griffith has high expectations for Carter this fall.

“He’s got a chance to be the best defender in college football,” Griffith said on Big Ten Network.

Recently, Abdul Carter spoke with the Penn State football media and outlined his sack total goal for 2024.

“The Penn State record is like 15.5 so, I’m going for 16,” Carter stated.”

That record was set by Carl Nassib back in 2015 when he recorded 15.5 sacks in a single season. Arnold Ebiketie is the only Nittany Lion in the past five seasons that has come close to that number when he recorded nine sacks in 2021.

Carter also explained how comfortable he feels at any position on defense.

“Yeah, I feel like I can play any position on the field. So, going from linebacker to defensive end wasn’t hard at all for me, because I just know that I’m a natural football player. Wherever I line up at I feel like I can impact the game.”
