In the era of NIL, recruiting has become even more challenging. For Penn State football fans, the constant misses on the recruiting trail for Matt Zollers, Dia Bell, and Brady Hart started to take a toll. In what appeared as if Penn State would go two cycles without an elite quarterback commitment. However, on Tuesday the Nittany Lions received a new commitment from Troy Huhn one of the nation’s best gunslingers in the 2026 recruiting class.
Troy Huhn is a 6-3 195-pound quarterback from San Marcos (California). According to On3, Huhn is the No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 class. He ranks as the No. 6 player in California and is a top-60 prospect in the country. The Nittany Lions have needed a splash landing in the quarterback market and they are now on the verge of doing just that.
On Monday afternoon, Chad Simmons, Steve Wiltfong, and Sean Fitz of On3 placed RPM predictions for the Penn State football team to secure a commitment from Huhn. Now on Tuesday morning, Huhn has brought truth to those predictions as Hayes Fawcett of On3 has announced Huhn’s commitment to Penn State.

For the longest time, Pennsylvania’s very own Messiah Mickens has been the lone 2026 recruiting class commit for Penn State. On Tuesday, that changed with the addition of Troy Huhn.
Mickens has recently received an offer from Missouri but he made it clear that Happy Valley is his home. Mickens ranks as the No. 3 player in PA. He also is listed as the No. 8 running back and the No. 65 player in the 2026 cycle according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
