Penn State football is in the running for one of the top prospects in the Lone Star State as he reaches a commitment decision this month. James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are one of the finalists for 2026 Liberty-Eylau wide receiver Dequane Prevo, who is expected to commit on July 30.
In addition to the Nittany Lions, Prevo will focus on Arkansas, Baylor, Texas A&M, and USC heading into his decision date.
A four-star recruit, Dequane Prevo is the No. 28 receiver in the 2026 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. On3’s recruiting industry comparison also ranks Prevo as the No. 17 prospect out of Texas and the No. 175 player for the class.
Prevo falls outside the top 200 in 247Sports’ 2026 rankings, although the outlet rates him as a top 20 athlete for the cycle.

In the 2025 cycle, the Nittany Lions’ summer recruiting momentum hit the skids recently, mainly due to failures at the wide receiver position.Â
After landing the program’s second commitment of the class at the position from McDonogh’s (Maryland) Jeff Exinor on June 28, Penn State football has gone cold at receiver since.
In July, James Franklin and his staff have missed on three receiver targets previously believed to be trending toward a Penn State commitment. I.C. Norcom (Virginia) pass catcher Matthew Outten committed to Brent Pry and Virginia Tech on July 1, followed by top in-state receiver Lex Cyrus of Susquehanna Township, who joined South Carolina’s class on July 11.Â
Last Saturday, Red Oak’s (Texas) Taz Williams chose Baylor over the Nittany Lions.
As of July 5, Dequane Prevo holds a crystal ball from 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong to commit to Texas A&M.Â
James Franklin and Penn State football have two commitments in the 2026 recruiting cycle: Harrisburg running back Messiah Mickens and Mission Hills (California) quarterback Troy Huhn.
