Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft gives two thumbs up to the student section following a 31-0 White Out football win against Iowa Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, in State College, Pa.

The transfer portal is a wide-open mess in college football. The Penn State football team has used it to gain talented players over the past few seasons. But other schools want to pry talent away from Penn State and other major programs by any means necessary. During his media availability this week athletic director Pat Kraft spoke about the ongoing tampering in the NCAA transfer portal. He went on to share a shocking story.

One of the best attributes about Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft is he’s all in. What I mean by that is he is always looking out for the student-athletes and the school itself. He has proven time and time again he isn’t afraid to speak his mind on important issues.

He continued that style last week during his media availability. Kraft was speaking about how crazy the transfer portal is currently in college football. He shared this story, Kraft stated, “We were in Las Vegas for Olu’s [Fashanu] award he was nominated for the Cambell Trophy. And on our way there we got an email of 8 athletes one of which was our own, who was not in the portal, and an agent was saying “Hey are you interested in them?” Was just shopping athletes around, I was not very happy and went to the NCAA officials there.”

Can Penn State football find worthy transfers this offseason?

The Penn State football team has been ice-cold in the transfer portal. They’ve earned two commits, Chase Meyers a kicker from Tulsa, and Alan Herron an offensive lineman from DII Shorter University. Herron has since decommitted from Penn State to commit to Maryland. So, the Nittany Lions have one addition only on special teams, and on top of that WR target Andre Greene Jr has committed to UVA, while Colbie Young has been crystal balled to UGA. The Nittany Lions need to leverage the transfer portal to fill roster gaps in 2024.
