A new SEC school approaches this Penn State football RB commit

While the Penn State football team continues to work to grow its recruiting classes, other schools look to do the same. Some even attempt to recruit already committed players. That’s where the Nittany Lions find themselves with the 2026 recruiting class running back commit Messiah Mickens. A player that has picked up significant interest around the country. Now another SEC has emerged, as Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats have offered Mickens a scholarship.

At the end of the day, Penn State football running back commit Messiah Mickens will have a lot to think about. While he already has made his college decision, so many new schools have entered the race. Just over the past few months Georgia, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Oregon have offered Mickens a scholarship. Now, Kentucky is the latest SEC school to join the race for Mickens.

Mickens announced Twitter/X on Wednesday. Stoops and the Wildcats are responsible for helping Vanderbilt transfer Ray Davis rush for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, David went on to become a 4th round pick by the Buffalo Bills in April’s NFL Draft. Now, he is searching for his next bell-cow running back.

Messiah Mickens is a four-star running back in the 2026 recruiting class. He made his commitment to Penn State on August 19th and continues to receive offers from additional schools. On3 lists Mickens as the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania and the No. 7 running back in the cycle.

Should Penn State football fans be worried about keeping Messiah Mickens a Nittany Lion? No, at least not for now. Just two days before announcing his new offer from Kentucky, Mickens posted a photo of Beaver Stadium and let everyone know that Happy Valley is home. 

It has felt that every time another school has entered the race for Messiah Mickens, he has gone out of his way to make sure people know that he’s not looking elsewhere. At the end of the day, we are over a year from National Signing Day. But one thing is certain, Mickens will have a lot to consider before then.
