The earlier a team is in a recruit’s official visit schedule, the better odds the given team will have to secure a commitment. Penn State football has had several prospects step foot in Happy Valley over the past few weeks. They’ve taken advantage of those visits and the Nittany Lions secured a recent commitment from Daryus Dixon because of this. However, with prospects Penn State was scheduled to host at the end of June, they have not been as lucky. On Wednesday, 2025 recruiting class target Jayden Loftin made his pledge to Tennessee ahead of his official visit to Penn State.

Jayden Loftin is a four-star prospect from Summerville, NJ. The 6-4 235 pound edge rusher was slated to take several official visits in June. He started with Wisconsin on May 31 and this past weekend he took his official to Tennessee. This visit led to his commitment on Wednesday. Loftin was scheduled to visit Syracuse this weekend and Penn State next weekend. Those two visits will likely not happen with his pledge to Tennessee.

Loftin is a top-10 prospect in New Jersey and ranks as a top-30 edge rusher in the 2025 recruiting class. The Penn State football team has yet to land an edge rusher in this cycle.

Penn State football misses on offensive tackle to Big Ten newcomer

This is the second time in a matter of days that Penn State has been beaten before they can make a final impression. On Monday, it was four-star offensive tackle Ziyare Addison who made his commitment to Oregon.

Addison made multiple trips to Happy Valley this spring. On one of his unofficial visits, he had the opportunity to connect with ex-Nittany Lion Olu Fashanu. This weekend, he was scheduled to return to Happy Valley to take his official visit; however, with his commitment to Oregon this week, that is unlikely to happen.

With the addition of Daryus Dixon, the Penn State football team holds the No. 14 recruiting class in the country, according to On3. Over the next few weekends, the hope will be to land a few more blue-chip recruits to continue to grow the 2025 recruiting class.
