Nothing beats the Penn State football White Out game. Each season the college football world gets to see one of the greatest environments in the sport. This game specifically creates a challenging environment for the Nittany Lion’s opponent. The loud noise can cause penalties and miscommunications all night. Now, as we approach the 2024 season, Brett McMurphy of Action Network has revealed the primetime slots for NBC this fall. Could Illinois be the White Out this season?
Penn State football 2024 White Out opponent coming into focus
The Penn State football team is 89 days away from kickoff at West Virginia. But what Nittany Lion fans always care about most is the biggest home game of the season aka the White Out. Heading into the 2024 season the home schedule for Penn State includes Bowling Green, Kent State, Illinois, UCLA, Ohio State, Washington, and Maryland.
On Monday Brett McMurphy of the Action Network reported that NBC has picked their primetime games lined up for this fall. Big Ten Saturday Night features the best matchup in the conference for a unique primetime experience.
According to McMurphy on Twitter/X, the Nittany Lions will be featured twice this fall. On September 28 Penn State will host Illinois. Then, the Nittany Lions will travel to Madison, WI to take on Wisconsin on October 26 on NBC. This has led some to believe that the White Out in 2024 could be against Illinois.
Playing a smaller program for the Whiteout game
There’s a stigma against playing anyone that isn’t Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oregon, etc for the Whiteout. Unfortunately with the variety of TV networks involved with college football and the Big Ten, the Nittany Lions have limited options. Big Noon Saturday has taken most of the marquee matchups. Penn State opens the season on Big Noon Saturday on FOX at West Virginia on August 31.
It can be frustrating as the hype for the White Out game as a Penn State fan is the environment but also the matchup. If the matchup isn’t up to standard, then there’s less excitement around the whole weekend. The difference between the 2021 game against Auburn versus the 2022 game against Minnesota was noticeable. At the end of the day, there are so many TV networks battling for their timeslot, that it’s creating a difficult scheduling issue in college football.
