After a series of tough losses on the recruiting trail, Penn State football got back in the win column in a big way this evening. Tonight, the Nittany Lions landed edge rusher Mylachi Williams, a top 3 player in Pennsylvania for the class of 2024. With the commitment from Williams, Penn State now has 3 of the top 5 players in the Keystone State for the 2024 cycle.
Mylachi Williams commits to Penn State football
Mylachi Williams is a four-star edge prospect in the class of 2024. From Monsignor Bonner High School near Philadelphia, On3 rates Williams as the No. 3 overall player in Pennsylvania and the No. 16 edge rusher in the nation for this cycle.
Penn State offered Williams in January, becoming only the second Power 5 program to do so at the time. The Nittany Lions have been the heavy favorite for several weeks, with predictions from On3, 247Sports, and Rivals. With 22 total offers, Mylachi Williams chose Penn State over Syracuse and in-state rival Pitt, who were his other top 3 programs.
Dominate the state
James Franklin is proving out the mantra “the best in PA, stay in PA” for the 2024 cycle. After landing Mylachi Williams, Penn State now has 3 of the top 5 players in Pennsylvania for the class of 2024, according to On3. Quinton Martin, the top player in the state for 2024, quickly became the headliner of the class when he committed in March. The Nittany Lions also recently added WR Tyseer Denmark, the No. 4 overall player who flipped from Oregon in June. IOL Cooper Cousins, the No. 7 overall player in the Keystone State, has also been in the class since January of 2022.
With this commitment, Penn State breaks a streak of several recruiting losses, including top 10 DL Benedict Umeh earlier today. The commitment from Williams should give the Nittany Lions a boost going into the final stretch of summer recruiting. Looking ahead, Penn State could still land top Maryland edge rusher Jaylen Harvey, who is still expected to commit to the Nittany Lions despite pushing his commitment date back from July 4.
