Entering his sophomore season in 2023 is Penn State football DE Dani Dennis-Sutton. The former 5-star prospect and the number-one high school recruit in Maryland in the 2022 recruiting class is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Dennis-Sutton was so talented that he couldn’t be kept off the field during his true freshman season. He appeared in all 13 games for the Penn State football team and ended the season with an impressive stat line.

Penn State football DE Dani Dennis-Sutton is ready for a massive season

During the 2022 season, he accounted for 17 tackles, 3 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 1 interception. The Penn State coaching staff knew right away that although he was inexperienced at the FBS level, he was too talented to keep off the field. At 6’5 250lbs, Dennis-Sutton is capable of wreaking havoc on any pass or run play.

The Nittany Lion sophomore is learning from the veterans

What makes me excited for DDS is that he has yet to have his first career start for the Penn State football team. He was able to come off the bench and make a tremendous impact for the James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. He will most likely come off the bench again during the 2023 season, but this time as a more experienced player. Being able to sit behind Chop Robinson who is a potential 2024 first-round NFL draft pick, as well as long-time veteran Adisa Isaac will only help DDS expand his game.

It’s also such a luxury to be able to rotate defensive linemen and not have a massive dropoff in production while the starters are on the bench. This is a reason why so many college football experts have high expectations for the Nittany Lions this fall. If Dani Dennis-Sutton can build off his impressive start to his Penn State career, this team will have an excellent opportunity to make it to the 2023 college football playoffs. The pressure will be on defensive line coach Deion Barnes to continue developing the position.
