After taking the first game against Brown on Friday, Penn State baseball split games two and three against the Bears Saturday. The final game in this four-game series has been canceled, meaning that the Nittany Lions edged out a 2-1 series victory.
The Lions are now 9-5 on the season following a 3-3 week.
Penn State Baseball Gets Extra Innings Win
Penn State won this game in extra innings.
They first got on the board when catcher Thomas Bramley hit a solo home run to lead off the game.
Brown would score a run in the second inning via an RBI single. The Bears scored another run from a wild pitch in the third and would take a 2-1 lead over Penn State.
However, Penn State answered right back in their half of the third inning when Jay Harry hit a solo home run of his own and tied the game 2-2.
Bobby Marsh would then join the home run party with a solo shot in the fourth inning to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
Brown would reclaim the lead in the fifth inning after a two-run home run, making the score 4-3.
Penn State would tie the game once again when second baseman Kyle Hannon homered in the sixth inning.
No one could break the stalemate through nine frames, so Penn State and Brown went into extra innings. The Lions finally broke the tie when Jay Harry hit a walk-off home run in the twelfth inning. The two-run shot gave Penn State the 6-4 victory.
Lions Lose in Game Two
Brown started the scoring in this game with a four-run third inning. Two doubles allowed the Bears to take a 3-0 lead, and a Penn State error increased the margin to four.
Penn State got on the board in the fifth inning when catcher Tyson Cooper hit a single to score Anthony Steele.
The Lions added two more runs in the seventh inning from a triple by Tyson Cooper, making the score to 4-3 Brown. But this would prove to be not enough for Penn State. The Lions couldn’t score any more runs, and the game would end with a Brown 4-3 Brown win.
